![]() We are the lucky recipients of were successful in applying for and receiving a Woolworths Landcare Grant. This grant provided our preschool with $1500 that we utilised to create a Native Garden, that complemented our existing vegetable and sensory gardens. These gardens assist our young learners to develop a growing understanding of how to engage with sustainable food production processes. We purchased items from Indigigrow, Mitre 10 and Bunnings. It was important for us to purchase from local community organisations. We have also purchased a bee hive from Billion Bees, although this is yet to arrive. ![]() The children were involved in every part of the project. They used ICT to research native plants, bush tucker, insects, bee hives and the needs of bees. They selected a VegeTrug and worked carefully to build the vegetable garden . This assisted them to work collaboratively, take turns, engage in the use of tools (drill, screwdriver, hammer etc) and a range of other skills. Our young learners assisted with planting and took care to engage safely. They wore gloves and listened carefully to directions. This post is long overdue but I would like to announce that in December 2020 we were rated as an EXCEEDING quality service. The staff at Arncliffe Preschool consistently go above and beyond and are exceeding the national quality standards. I am so proud of the ongoing commitment of our teachers and educators, to improve educational outcomes for children.
This rating would not have been possible without the tireless effort of the staff and teachers/educators. They go above and beyond year after year, always providing a quality educational program. I couldn't be more blessed than to be working with such an amazing community, such committed staff members and having the opportunity to work alongside our fabulous children. Everyday I am thankful to arrive at a job that I adore. Well done Arncliffe Preschool We are proud to announce that we have been successful with our application for a 2021 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant for our garden project! We were also lucky enough to be granted the extra bee bonus funding— We are looking to purchase some Native Bees into our preschool. These native bees are stingless and will assist our garden to flourish, as the bees pollinate our herbs and vegetables.
Our Sea Dragon and Rainbow children cannot wait to get their hands dirty. They will use the water that we collect in our rain water tank, to water the plants. They are excited to harvest our vegetable produce and look forward to cooking with the produce and sharing the produce with their families. Arncliffe Preschool is one of 1,609 primary schools and early learning centres throughout Australia receiving a Woolworths Junior Landcare grant to help grow our next generation of environmental champions. The grants are being funded with a 10c contribution from each sale of the Woolworths Bag for Good at full price, which was launched in 2018 when Woolworths went single-use plastic bag free. The children and teachers are looking forward to working and learning from this project and we’ll keep you updated on the results. We are participating in the Woolwroths Earn and Learn promotion. If you have been collecting Woolworths stickers and are looking to donate them to a school or preschool, we would be very grateful to receive them.
We have a sticker box located at Wolli Creek Woolworths and also have a box located in our foyer. Alternatively, you can place them into our letter box. This promotion ends on Tuesday 25th June. Thank you in advance About the SunSmart Early Childhood Education and Care Program
Services are ideally placed to play a leading role in the reduction of future skin cancer rates because: • significant UV exposure occurs during childhood and adolescence • children attend services during peak UV times • services can create sun safe environments and influence sun protection behaviours through education and role modelling. As a SunSmart service you can be confident you are implementing an approved Sun Protection Policy that meets all the Quality Areas in the National Quality Framework (NQF) The SunSmart Early Childhood Education and Care Policy Each service is responsible for developing, putting into action and regularly reviewing its own sun protection policy. You are welcome to copy the sample SunSmart policy or use it to guide the development of your own sun protection policy. Cancer Council NSW SunSmart template: Early Childhood Education and Care SunSmart Policy A SunSmart policy ensures services are addressing 10 key areas of sun protection: 1. For policy support or advice, you can also contact SunSmart. For this year's Eid afternoon teas we invited the children to assist with baking some lovely traditional treats. Our children enjoyed making 'Kaak El Abbas' and 'Atayef' and many discussions were had about making such delicious treats at home, with Mummy and Te Ta.
Our children made a wonderful ‘Eid Mubarak’ sign and it was lovely to see them all working collaboratively. Our Eid afternoon tea also provided a wonderful opportunity for educators/teachers to continue to develop relationships with families and increase our social connections. We really appreciate the time and support that our families dedicated to our preschool Eid celebration afternoon tea and are thankful to the families who contributed food for our Eid celebration. Acknowledging children’s own cultural practices and celebrations is a great way to promote the children’s sense of identity and increase their sense of belonging. We would like to continue to embrace your child/ren and family’s cultural background and practices within our preschool environment and curriculum, so please let us know what kind of cultural celebrations your family views as important, so that we can incorporate your family beliefs into our preschool. ![]()
